Principal’s Message
It is with great pleasure to welcome all to Lighthouse School. We look forward to serving you, with the support of all staff, to help make our school ALL that it can be.
We aim to support the school community to enable our pupils to thrive and make outstanding progress in a positive, caring environment. Lighthouse School is an excellent educational institution, and our students and parents are very much the central focus of everything that we do and all our decisions that we make.
We look forward to partnership with parents, staff and the community to provide the highest quality of education, in a child centered productive and safe learning environment.
Principal Janice Headley
It is a pleasure to welcome you to The Lighthouse School, the only government special needs school in the Cayman Islands. I graduated from The Mico Teacher’s College with a concentration in Special Education. I am also a UK-certified Speech & Language Therapist with experience in educational and clinical settings in Jamaica, the UK, and Cayman. I now use my relevant expertise, knowledge, and experience to contribute to the leadership team at LHS. I am a passionate advocate for persons with special needs and disabilities.
Our school takes pride in creating a positive and supportive environment. Student engagement is top on our list; as such, we are keen to implement programs that provide holistic development for all learners. To achieve this, we offer different international curriculum pathways alongside a clear focus that develops every child’s broader skill and competency.
We are all about student engagement and meeting our students at their level. Our assessment systems measure each pupil’s progress independently, according to their needs profile.
As a collaborative school, we encourage our students and families to have a voice and contribute to the overall school improvement. Community involvement is integral to learning at LHS. We have strong community partnerships that provide opportunities for all our students, such as work placements, integrated learning opportunities, and improved resources.
Our student motto is ‘YES WE CAN’. Our staff motto is ‘Together we can achieve great things.’ It truly takes a village to raise a child, and here at LHS, we are grateful for our village, including parents & students, DES & Ministry, our community partners, and our dedicated staff.
