John Gray High School

Principal’s Message

Welcome to the John Gray High School website. John Gray is a vibrant and forward-thinking school located in George Town, the capital of some of the most beautiful islands in the world, the Cayman Islands.

My name is Jonathan Clark, and I am very honoured to have taken up the position of Principal at John Gray High School in February 2016, leading my dedicated and passionate team of teachers and other professionals in educating, inspiring, and enriching the lives of the children of Cayman as we embark on a new, exciting chapter of a school with a proud history.

‘Discipline, Excellence and Pride’ is the vision here at John Gray High School and we have our ‘High 5’ values, developed by students and staff in partnership, of ‘Right Time, Right Place, Respect, Responsibility and Achievement’ which we live by to help us meet that vision.

We opened our brand new ‘state of the art’ gymnasium in time for the Summer 2017 exams and Graduation ceremony and officially opened the rest of our ‘world-class’ campus in March 2023. The innovative design was created with input from students, staff, and parents, with a clear focus on ‘visible learning’, improving transition time so that we maximise learning time, and keeping students safe at all times. The school has a range of outstanding learning areas such as our performance hall, collaborative staircases, open spaces for cross-curricular creativity, a robotics lab, and everything necessary for academic and vocational pathways to success. We received a ‘good’ rating in our last Office of Education (OES) inspection in April 2021, with leadership judged as excellent and student leadership exceptional. We are confident that our inspirational new building, coupled with great teaching and memorable ‘visible learning’ every day, will support our journey and commitment to ‘excellence’.

The well-being and all round development of our staff and students as the ‘best version of themselves’ is a priority. We believe that strong professional relationships underpin everything we do.

We offer a broad and rich curriculum with a deep focus on individual needs and the progress of each student regardless of their starting point. We believe this curriculum, along with an extensive programme of extracurricular activities, trips, clubs, projects, moral and spiritual guidance, will lead to academic success and develop the personal skills, resilience, growth, and character for our students to achieve great things and make an active contribution to their community and beyond.

We praise hard work and encourage both independence and collaboration and believe that having a ‘growth mind-set’ and a positive attitude to learning (ATL) are the keys to success.

Thank you for your interest in John Gray High School, where achievement is high but aspirations are always higher.

If you have any questions or require further information please look out for our active social media pages or contact myself or any of our team at the school.
