GUIDELINES FOR SCHOOL REGISTRATION, TRANSFERS & HOME SCHOOL FORMS

It is a requirement of the new Education Law 2016 for a parent or legal guardian of any child of compulsory school age to be registered and enrolled in full-time education suitable to the child's requirements either by attendance at school from the first day of the school calendar or otherwise as provided in Part 4, Section 16. The following guidelines set out the new requirement for registration and transfer of students in schools.

Entry to Government Schools

Priority for admission to Government schools is assigned as follows:

Reception Program: 4 years before September 1st.
  • Caymanians with proof established by an official letter issued by Work Opportunities & Residency Cayman (WORC) acknowledging the child's right to be Caymanian.
Primary - Secondary: 5 years before September 1st and children older.
  • Caymanians with proof established by an official letter issued by Work Opportunities & Residency Cayman (WORC) acknowledging the child's right to be Caymanian.
  • Dependents of Caymanians with proof established by an official letter issued by Work Opportunities & Residency Cayman (WORC) acknowledging the child's right to be Caymanian.
  • Dependents of contracted government employees (Space permitting following the close of registration)
  • Dependents of permanent residents (Space permitting following the close of registration)
  • Other – Children approved by WORC for entry to government schools (Space permitting following the close of registration)

Start Date for the Online Registration of Students Applications for the school year, 2023/2024 commences on 1st,March 2023 and will end on 31th May 2023. Late registration will comense on the 1st, of June 2023 and end on 30th, of June 2023

Please note that the 2022/2023 Registration period closes, effective 28th February 2023.

Determination of Residence/Catchment

A Student's residence/catchment is determined as follows:

  • Residence is determined by a person's physical presence as a resident within a designated geographic boundary of a school catchment with the intent to remain.
  • The residence of a student for school purposes depends upon a factual determination of the care, custody and control of the student.
  • All other requests for transfers as well as all Placement Exception Requests will be reviewed by the Office of Registration and Communication Services following consultation with the assigned SL, SSIO and/or DoDES. These reviews are held at the end of the annual registration period and under emergency circumstances, when it is in the best interest of the child i.e. Medical, SEN, and/or Safety.

School Fees

The following fees apply to non-Caymanian residences:

Primary School Students
Years 1-6 Term 1 August - December
CI $200.00 per term Term 2 January - April
Term 3 April - July


Lower Secondary School Students
Years 7-9 Term 1 August - December
CI $300.00 per term Term 2 January - April
Term 3 April - July


Higher Secondary School Students
Years 10-12 Term 1 August - December
CI $400.00 per term Term 2 January - April
Term 3 April - July


Parents will receive an invoice from the Ministry of Education each term advising them of the fees to be paid. The first invoice will be sent to parents at the end of September.

Fees are to be paid at the Treasury Department located at the Government Administration Building on Elgin Avenue.

Before starting the forms below please make sure you have the following information and documents ready as they will be required before completing the form.   • Previous school report or transcript (Primary/Secondary: years 1-11)
  • Birth / Adoption Certificate (Long Version)
  • Immunization Records
  • Student Medical - First-time enrollment or admission outside of education service. One you have been assigned to a school they will contact you and assist with setting up an appointment.
  • Proof of Immigration Status - Caymanian Status Letter/Certificate for child, Permanent Residency Letter/Certificate or Civil Servant Contract noting child as a dependent. Other supporting documents may be considered.
  • Two Documents Which Provide Proof of Address - Parents - Drivers license, Utility bill, Vehicle logbook, Job letter, or Government ID
  • Proof of Relationship to Student - Birth or Adoption Certificate or Court Order.
  • Photo Identification for Each Parent - Must be a valid Government Issues photo ID, Drivers License, Passport, or Voter ID
  • Parental Responsibility - Please upload stamped and sealed Court documents showing has parental responsibility
  • Educational Psychologist Assessment - This is only required if your child has been assessed and or identified as having special educational needs or a disability.
  • Non – Caymanian students: Proof of the student's legal resident status confirmed by WORC and child's passport
  • If a secondary parent is not able to sign you will need to download and complete the parental consent letter.
  • If needed please complete the Parent Affidavit of Residency

Transfers Request forms are to be used where a student is transferring BETWEEN GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS ONLY. Where students are currently in a private school and applying for a placement in a government school, please use the STUDENT REGISTRATION FORM.

  • Photo Identification for Each Parent - Must be a valid Government Issues photo ID, Drivers License, Passport, or Voter ID
  • Court order showing parent / guardian identified and custody status
  • Written statement for "Reason for Transfer Request"
  • Educational Psychologist Assessment - This is only required if your child has been assessed and or identified as having special educational needs or a disability.
  • Proof of Immigration Status - Caymanian Status Letter/Certificate for child, Permanent Residency Letter/Certificate or Civil Servant Contract noting child as a dependent. Other supporting documents may be considered.
  • Non – Caymanian students: Proof of the student's legal resident status confirmed by WORC and child's passport.

  • Proof of Immigration Status - Caymanian Status Letter/Certificate, Permanent Residency Letter/Certificate or Civil Servant Contract noting child as a dependent. Other supporting documents may be considered.
  • Educational Psychologist Assessment - This is only required if your child has been assessed and or identified as having special educational needs or a disability.
